My name is Dean Cruddace and i have been a freelance web designer since qualifying in advanced telematics back in 2001. Shortly after gaining my qualification i went on to be an “in house” web designer.
Based in Sunderland i have advanced my skills beyond the basic coding of raw HTML to further encompass further languages including: CSS, Php, Javascript, XHTML and XML.
Having a knowledge of several languages associated with web design and development has enabled me to easily grasp new concepts and it is through this understanding that i have achieved a smooth transition into understanding SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) which gives me an edge over competing freelancers when it comes to gaining those all important visitors to clients websites and i have yet to fail when it comes to ranking my clients sites well for the keywords they have targeted.
So apart from the freelance web design or even redesigns for that matter, SEO is a tool within my arsenal that i can offer as an extra or as a stand alone service.
Search Engine Optimisation for your website
Search Engine Optimisation and it`s practices have taken many forms over the years and since the necessity and need to increase your websites visibility within the search engine result pages has grown with the amount of competition you are facing, so has the increased need to optimise your website.
It is no longer possible to simply put a website together, submit it to the search engines and then wait for the visitors and sales or bookings to arrive. In this day and age you can typically be listed within the search engines within 1 - 2 weeks thats the easy part.
Being listed is no longer enough and it never has been for at least the past five years, so why on earth would you leave your competition to go and grab all of those sales that could well have been yours just for the sake of a little on and “offsite optimisation”?
Website design in it`s infancy focussed quite simply on having a web presence, some of those websites are still around today, ugly as sin with all singing all dancing animations that serve no purpose other than to give you eye ache and all too quick press of the back button. Websites today are increasingly more dynamic structures with a focus on aesthetics and usability with exactly the same end goal in mind.
Website design has changed, what`s all this SEO about?
SEO, is all about taking what you already have and tweaking the code here and there, what this could mean to a website that has been designed badly is taking the entire structure of the website and reforming it into a more desirable proposition for the search engines to understand what you are all about.
What this means for your website if it has been designed to a decent standard is tweaking a few lines of code to include the more important short and long keywords and keyphrases you were meant to be targetting in the first place.
What kind of SEO could i offer to a website that already has onsite optimisation?
Well if you were one of the lucky ones that had a semantically correct design from the beginning then chances are you will already be performing well within the search engines. If you have an in house SEO/web designer that knows his/her way around a search engine then chances are you are on the right track, but how much more website visitors are you missing out on? who knows?

All SEO information is freely available all over the internet but be very careful about what you trust is to be useful seo and that other information that could well end up having your website receive a hefty penalty or hidden well within the results. If you are a keen up and coming web designer/seo you can not go too far wrong by reading Dan Thies eBook, “SEO Fast Start” his writing is easy to understand for the beginner and he offers even the likes of me reassurance that what i have been doing for all these years is the “right way” phew.
